Despite a focused attention and increase of social services on Sullivant Avenue on the Westside of Columbus, Ohio, the area remains one of the county’s highest rates of poverty, substance use/mental health disorders, domestic violence, and homelessness compared to other parts of Franklin County. These are all, of course, risk factors for the experience of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. The “Suffering on Sullivant” (Columbus Dispatch, 2020) has been well-documented over the years, and the data reveals a continued challenge: In 2024 alone, 80% of the Columbus street-based solicitation arrests took place on Sullivant Avenue directly.
